SSLShop FAQs
What else do I need to start selling online? Just products. Your store can be online in 1-2 business days. Using the StoreManager to add your products and create your store appearance, enter your shipping rates and adjust your store options, you can start selling products almost immediately. Although you may eventually want to consider additional options once your store becomes popular, there's nothing else required. Can I just link to SSLShop for checkouts from my existing website? Certainly. You can add buttons to your existing web site and link those buttons to your SSLShop account for secure checkouts and cart contents. SSLShop's headers, footers and order forms can be customized to match the rest of your website for seamless secure transactions. Do I need a merchant credit card account? If you intend to accept credit cards, then you will need a merchant account with the bank of your choice. If you want to accept credit cards in realtime, you will also need a realtime processor like AuthorizeNet, Cambist or CyberCash. These services are not part of SSLShop itself -- although SSLShop is compatible with a number of realtime processors' accounts. For more information about merchant accounts and realtime processing, contact your bank and visit the realtime processors' websites listed above. Is my domain name registration included? No. Domain name registration can be accomplished through Network Solutions (for .com, .net and .org addresses) or another registry. The cost for domain name registration varies greatly depending on the registry you choose. However, we will be glad to register your domain for you at the exact cost charged by the registry (eg., $70 for 2 years for Network Solutions). Once your name is registered, your SSLShop account does include name service for your domain at no additional cost. Do I need my own SSL certificate? No. For Bronze, Silver and Gold accounts, we provide checkout through sslshop.com domain using a shared certificate. This eliminates the need for a purchasing a costly certificate and still gives your customers full 128-bit SSL encryption. For Platinum accounts, you will need to purchase an SSL certificate through Thawte or Verisign. Can I upgrade my account later? Yes. You can upgrade from any account level to a higher account level for a setup fee equal to the difference in price between the two accounts. We will then begin billing you at the new account level effective the month you upgrade. In addition, you can choose to add features and functions from our selection at any time. Is technical support available? Yes. Support is available in the form of our online documentation as well as by email. Our support specialists can answer all questions within 1 business day, and usually sooner. Although it's rarely needed, telephone support is also available on a charge per-call basis or on a subscription basis. Custom programming to extend the functionality of your SSLShop is also available. Ask us for a price estimate. Is SSLShop secure? Yes. SSLShop uses 128-bit Secure Socket Layer (SSL) encryption to ensure that all transactions between browser and server are encrypted. This type of encryption is the web standard used by all major commerce sites and is fully compatible with the web's most popular browsers -- Netscape and Microsoft Internet Explorer. In addition, SSLShop never transmits credit card information by email where it could be intercepted. Can I pay by check? Yes. However, we require a minimum payment of 3-months in advance for those customers who choose to pay by check. Can I use CyberCash? Yes. However CyberCash support is currently available with the Platinum account only. If you want realtime credit card support with the other account levels, you may want to consider AuthorizeNet for which has SSLShop has built-in support. Can I use SSLShop to start an online mall? Yes. However, if you intend to sell SSLShop services to multiple stores you'll need to look into our reseller licensing options. Our individual SSLShop accounts are for use by only one store. However, our reseller accounts can handle 25, 50 or even more. Can SSLShop track my affiliates? Yes. SSLShop can store the identity of the originating affiliate for each customer throughout your site, then return the identity in the customer order message you receive at checkout time. This makes it easy to know where your customers are coming from. Can I host SSLShop on my own server? Yes. We offer a number of reseller licensing options which allow you to license your own server or even your own copy of SSLShop to run with as many clients as you wish. Contact us for more information. I have very complex shipping needs. Can SSLShop be customized? Yes. The SSLShop software can be customized by our programming staff on an hourly contract basis. However, hosting a customized installation requires a Platinum level or higher account. For more information, email sslshop@sslshop.com. Does SSLShop work with Microsoft FrontPage? To a degree. You can use FrontPage or any other authoring tool to design your HTML pages. However, you will still need to use a standard FTP program (or an FTP gateway like that offered by AOL) to upload your files after you have finished designing them since the SSLShop server does not have FrontPage extensions installed. Dozens of FTP clients are freely available and many excellent ones can be found at the Tucows website. |
